MeadowLoop

This project addresses the conflict between the Meadowlands' position in the East Coast supply chain and its importance as a natural ecosystem and water basin at a regional scale. Packing the warehouses into a denser logistics structure reduces their footprint, emissions, and infrastructure demand while addressing their operational requirements. The warehouses are relocated to a proposed site, the Meadowloop, which can host up to three times the existing warehouse capacity with strong connectivity and a minimal footprint. Vacated areas are repurposed as reclaimed natural landscapes, or ROOMS, while developable areas form well-defined BANDS. This process redefines the current Meadowlands Commission boundaries, placing the natural rooms under its supervision, operation, and maintenance. The Meadowloop site hosts three of the four main infrastructure intersections, allowing immediate connectivity to New York City, the airport, the harbor, and western New Jersey. The project supports existing and future industry, storage, and logistics in the Meadowlands while maintaining an open and active natural landscape. With rising consumer demand and climate change pressure, this coexistence requires an inclusive process and a comprehensive approach.
